Surgical Technology A Surgical Technologist prepares and passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon; maintains a sterile field before and during surgery, and prepares instruments for the next operative procedure. Students shall:
- Apply and maintain sterile technique and safety in operating room.
- Prepare, handle, and care for surgical instruments, supplies, equipment, medication, and specimens.
- Use medical terminology
- Identify microbiology, pharmacology & basic anatomy and physiology.
- Maintain CPR certification
- Operate a personal computer
- Recognize the legal and policy limits of individual responsibility
- Sit for National Certification Test
** Program is accredited by CAA HEP Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs.
Pre-entrance test, work keys test, and criminal background check required. Recent physical examinations, TB test or chest x-ray within past year, Hepatitis B vaccinations or waiver, and Rubella and Rubeola immuity/immuization required.
Call to be notified of dates for the pre-entrance test for upcoming class (usually begins in the summer before the following January start date).
