Admission for full-time (600 hrs or more) programs requires proof of a high school diploma or its equivalent. Acceptance into certain programs and courses may have additional requirements. No former student can enroll in any program if he/she has an outstanding balance with the SCCTC Post-Secondary Education Center.
The SCCTC Board of Education and its staff are dedicated to providing equal opportunity to all community members who decide to enter post-secondary education programs. If a student has or develops special needs due to a disability, the student must provide medical documentation of disability to allow our staff to work with administrative, instructional and maintenance staff to evaluate accommodations.
Any student still attending high school must have signed authorization from a home school principal before registering for post-secondary programs. The high school student will not be eligible to receive Title IV funds.
Student Services assists individuals who are considering enrollment in a career technical program. Assistance is available for career counseling, admissions process, pre-entrance examinations, and financial aid. Some programs have limited enrollment so prospective students are encouraged to start the application process early. Tuition costs are subject to change pending upon Board of Education approval.
- Complete application for admission form.
- Schedule and take a pre-entrance examination or show proof of WorkKeys scores taken within the past 5 years. WorkKeys scores must be at or above the required level for the course of study.
- Attend an Informational Meeting.
- Provide copy of High School Diploma or GED.
Each program has a minimum and maximum number of students that can be accepted. If a program is cancelled, a full refund of pre-paid fees will be returned to the student.
The career counseling/guidance services are available to adult students. These services are available to assist students with career decisions, job-transitioning or other program and career related information. The SCCTC does not guarantee employment. Counseling appointments may be scheduled through the post-secondary office during either day or evening hours.
Program Completion Requirements
Students will receive a Career Passport upon successful completion of a full-time program. Career Passports are not issued without meeting the following minimum requirements.
- Satisfactory completion of coursework, lab/clinical or other program specific assignments.
- Attendance that meets specific program guidelines.
- Completion of employability class.
- Taking all required assessments/certification examinations.
- Payment of ALL program fees or payment arrangements made prior to completion of the program.
- Exit interview with the financial aid coordinator for all students receiving a guaranteed student loan.
Advance Standing/Transfer Policy (may not apply to all programs)
Credit for previous course work taken at another approved/accredited educational institution may be granted on an individual basis. Factors to be considered are level achieved, grades, length of time out of school, and space availability. The course work or clock hours from another educational institution must be comparable to the course offered at the SCCTC. Credit for previous course work can only be considered for approval during the admission process. Financial Aid may not be available or may be reduced if advanced standing is obtained.
Internal Credit Transfer
Credit for previous course work /program or component of a program may be granted if enrolling in a program with a similar curriculum. Factors to be considered are level achieved, grades, length of time since attending course or program, and space availability. Credit for previous course work/program can only be considered for approval during the admission process. Financial Aid may not be available or may be reduced if advanced standing is obtained. Internal Credit Transfer may not apply to all course work or programs.
Appropriate and Safe Behavior
All students are to conduct themselves in a professional manner. Unprofessional conduct may include:
- Apparel or appearances that are disruptive, unclean or unsafe shall not be permitted.
- The use of foul/obscene language or offensive remarks in the classroom, lab, school property or any location associated with the training program (externship, clinical sites, early placement, etc.).
- Causing a disruption, acting in an inappropriate manner, or causing danger to themselves or others.
- Wearing improper footwear. The style and construction of the footwear shall be appropriate for the program and activity.
- Failing to wear all required safety equipment in the laboratory/clinical or work setting and follow all safety guidelines.
- Wearing jewelry, neckties, and loosely fitting long-sleeve shirts shall not be worn when operating equipment.
- Horseplay and other activities that could jeopardize their safety or the safety of others.
- Failing to comply with all clinical site requirements.
- Failing to comply with the Student Code of Conduct as outlines in OAC 4723-5-12, 13 (practical nursing students).
- Failing to adhere to HIPPA regulations (health program students).
Application and Pre-Entrance Fee
Some programs have pre-entrance costs. These costs are listed on the Programs “Getting Started” form. Go to www.sciototech.org.
To qualify for federal financial aid a student must have earned a high school diploma or GED, and be enrolled in an eligible program. Financial aid eligibility is based on need, which is determined by completing the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the primary application for federal aid. The most common types of federal financial aid are the Federal Pell Grant and Direct Loan. Contact the Post-Secondary Office for an application or apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. No former student can enroll in any full-time or short-term program if he/she has an outstanding balance with the SCCTC Post-Secondary Education Center. - A 100% refund* of tuition and lab fees if the student withdraws in the 1st week of the term.
- A 75% refund* of tuition and lab fees if the student withdraws within the 2nd week of the term.
- A 50% refund* of tuition and lab fees if the student withdraws within the 3rd week of the term.
- No refund after the 3rd week of the term. *Excludes any expenses incurred by the school such as assessments already taken, books, tools, etc.
Short-Term/Up to 599 hours
- If a program is cancelled for any reason, or a student withdraws prior to the start date of a program, a 100% refund will be given.
- No refund will be given after the start date of the program.
